FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions people most often ask before their first session.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For most adults working on anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship issues, research suggests virtual therapy is roughly as effective as in-person therapy. The relationship with your therapist and your engagement in the work matter more than the delivery format.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?

IFS is an evidence-based approach that treats the mind as a system of 'parts' — protectors, exiles, and a core Self. Rather than trying to get rid of anxious or self-critical parts, IFS helps you understand what they're protecting and build a compassionate inner relationship with them.

Do you accept insurance or can I use my benefits?

Sessions are paid at time of booking. I provide a receipt showing my Registered Psychotherapist (RP) designation and licensing number, which most Canadian extended health plans reimburse. Please check your plan for coverage of a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario.

What provinces can you see clients in?

I'm registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and see clients virtually across Canada. If you have questions about coverage rules in your specific province, we can talk about it during a free consultation.

How much does a therapy session cost?

A 30-minute consultation is free. A 50-minute individual session is $160 CAD (tax-free). 25- and 75-minute sessions are also available on request.

What happens in a free consultation?

A 15–30 minute video call to discuss your reason for seeking therapy, your goals, any past experience with therapy, availability, and cost. It's a no-pressure way to see if we're a fit before booking a paid session.

How is online therapy delivered — what platform do you use?

Sessions run over a secure, PHIPA/PIPEDA-compliant video platform. You'll get a private link before each session. You just need a quiet, private space and a decent internet connection.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. Session content is confidential, with the usual legal exceptions all Canadian therapists have (risk of serious harm to self or others, suspected child abuse, court subpoena). I'll walk you through this in our first session.

What is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP)?

RP is a regulated title in Ontario, meaning I'm licensed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and required to meet standards of training, ethics, and continuing education. My CRPO number is 12623.

How soon can I book an appointment?

Availability varies. The fastest path is to book a free consultation via Calendly — you'll see current openings there. Paid sessions are booked through Jane App.

Do you work with trauma survivors?

Yes. Trauma-focused work is my primary specialty. I'm a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist–Individual (CCTS-I) and have advanced training in Complex Trauma, IFS, and somatic approaches.

What should I expect in my first session?

The first session is about getting a fuller picture — your history, what you'd like to work on, and what's felt supportive or unhelpful in past therapy. You don't need to prepare anything; come as you are.
